Freeport Manor, Feb. 13, 2023

The old train tracks crossing Willow Slough, just south of Charlie Jensen Park, have been torn out to make way for the Del Rio Trail bike path. Now that most of trees slated for removal are gone, crews are preparing for construction of the trail itself.

According to information published by the city, the trail will be built on top of the existing tracks in some places, while other locations like Willow Slough will have the tracks removed. In other places — like along the levee between Sutterville Rd. and Riverside Blvd. — the trail will be adjacent to the tracks.
